Sonia Szóstak: “Longboards, tattoos and a journey to Mars”

Verlängert bis 25. Januar 2015

Just a few days before the official start of the European Month of Photography, Berlin’s newest concept store for art and design, NO WÓDKA, opens on 11 October 2014 the solo exhibition of Polish photographer Sonia Szóstak. ‘Longboards, tattoos and a journey to Mars’ presents 19 photographic works that were created over the last four years.

Spanning portraits, fashion, and nudes, the photographs represent different narrative photographic series produced by the artist. Creating scenes that range from the naturally arranged to the perfectly staged, Szóstak works in the tradition of established editorial photographs, while communicating more than a moment
that captures a mere trend. She reflects much more the spirit of her generation and makes pointed reference to art history (Classic Portrait).

In the summer of 2013 the young photographer (*1990, Stettin/Poland) was invited by Carla Sozzani to exhibit at her renowned Corso Como (Milan) as part of the show “A Glimpse at Photo Vogue”. Since then, Szóstak has been a sought-after member of the new
European photography scene, with her work featured in publications such as Ozon
Magazine, Blink Magazine, K Mag, PhotoVogue Italia, and Vain Magazine as well as This is Paper. Counting among her clients are Le Book, H&M, Random House Publishing Group, and Levis.
