The 6th NACHTSCHICHT / Nachtschicht – Berlin Design Night 2017 is coming!
Together with our partner – TENGU GALLERY – we’re very pleased to invite you to the opening of our 3rd exhibition – Painter’s Notebook by MICHAL KORTA.
Inspired by contemporary painters, especially those who use photography as a starting point for their work: Gerhard Richter, Luc Thuymans, Michael Borremans, Wilhelm Sasnal, but also classical 17th and 18th century Dutch painters, Korta explores the topics and techniques, distractions and objectivity. He observes how photography represents reality and how synthetic painting can be. He takes a closer look at the poses, the coincidences and the flow in the art process – everything that causes the works of those painters move the viewers imagination and points out the state of today. Where are we now?
Korta says: For years now I have been researching the relation between painting and photography. During the past five years I made numerous attempts to deconstruct portrait in photography in many ways. This time I create a fake painter, who takes photographs for non existing paintings. In his case the half-finished product is the end product. With time I realized that there are different factors that make photographs and paintings special. With some experiments I try to shift the line.
In this project Korta takes the modern portraiture and mixes it with classic painting, shakes it gently and looks at the output carefully.
